Travel

Each group traveling to Cuba requires considerable advance preparation in terms of acquiring US permission and a Cuban visa.  Current-- cost is about $800 for a 710-day trip. An extra $300 will usually cover incidental and unseen costs. Medicine funding, clothing and church goods such as Spanish Book of Common Prayer and Bibles as well as communion chalices and plates are permitted by the government and welcomed by the parishioners. In an average years a half dozen trips are made with leaders ranging from Julie Sullivan, of Church of the Good Shepherd, in Gainesville to Father Jack Watson and his wife of Christ Church in Cedar Key as well as the Robinsons mentioned previously of St. James in Lake City.  With the expectation of Nancy Galloway's return to Holy Trinity and Joy and Alberto Mendez making recent trip from Holy Trinity, Holy Trinity Cuba Committee will be sponsoring trips, consisting mainly of our own parishioners.   Father Gordon hopes that he will be able to make the trip whenever his schedule will permit it.

Much about Cuba is misunderstood.  For example many of the restrictions for those traveling to from Cuba are imposed y then U.S. Treasury Dept. or U.S. Immigration Services.  The restrictions imposed by Cuba are relatively negotiable ranging from Certain activities in which not to engage, e.g. political to where and how you travel.  The visas that Cubans have to secure to come to the U.S. are acquired from U.S. Immigration officials as well as Cuban officials.  When U.S. citizens travel to Cuba, there are limits on expenditures and what one may bring back as the result of the embargo administered by the U.s. Treasury Dept. One such example would be no use of American credit cards is permitted by the U.S.
Government. Cubans in turn restrict all spending by Americans be in U.S. dollars. It is the U.S. Treasury Dept that issues a license for us to travel to Cuba under the auspices of the church with Cuba Visas singed by the Bishop of Cuba.
